Where the price difference comes from
- Update frequency. If weekly rankings are enough, Ahrefs costs no more than its base plan. If you need daily rankings, Ahrefs adds $200 per project per month: SE Ranking Core is $129/mo and Ahrefs Lite is $329/mo for 750 daily keywords.
- Mobile. SE Ranking counts Google mobile as a separate engine; Ahrefs counts each keyword once per location. SE Ranking Core is $129/mo and Ahrefs Standard is $449/mo for 1,000 keywords on desktop + mobile, daily.
- Projects. The Ahrefs add-on is per project, so daily tracking for several sites multiplies it: SE Ranking Core is $129/mo and Ahrefs Standard is $1,249/mo for 2,000 daily keywords across 5 projects.
- Bing. SE Ranking tracks Bing; Ahrefs Rank Tracker is Google only.
How each counts keywords
SE Ranking
- Daily keywords are counted as targets: keyword × search engine (pricing page: 30 keywords in 2 engines = 60 targets).
- SE Ranking's help center lists Google and Google Mobile as separate search engines, so desktop + mobile counts twice.
- Reviews report that each tracked location also counts again; the calculator assumes it does. Confirm with your own list during the trial.
- Enterprise (custom limits and pricing) is quote-only.
Ahrefs
- Rank Tracker updates weekly on every plan. Daily updates need the Project Boost Max add-on ($200/month per project).
- Each keyword counts once per location.
- Annual billing is 2 months free. Enterprise is sold on annual commitment only.
